The Pole star, the node of the cosmos and the center of the heavens, an embodiment of the pure unmoving focus represented by Pluto. Within the microcosmic body Pluto holds space where the multitude of ’All that is’ is concentrated into one point. This is the point where light and dark meet and separate, where the unconscious becomes conscious and conscious becomes unconscious, much similar to what is referred to as the ’bindu’ in Vedic tradition. The Bindu is the source out of which all things manifest and to which all things return, a point from where the mandala of the Universe unfolds. The Bindu has a polar placement within the body. According to Vedic metaphysics there is a white Bindu residing in the ‘bindu visarga’ in the head, related to Shiva and the Moon, and a red Bindu residing in the Muladhara chakra related to Shakti and the Sun. These two Bindus have the potential to come into union, stirring the movement of kundalini.
Within the microcosmic body these polarity points have their reflection in the placement of Pluto. Like Earth the microcosmic body generates a magnetic field with magnetic poles. Pluto forms the North and South pole of the magnetic field of the Heart. On a macrocosmic scale one will find the North and South pole of Earth, geographically referred to as the Arctic and Antarctic. In the Antarctic lives a being that so happens to carry the Plutonic essence. Penguin endures the harsh conditions of life around the Southern pole of Earth. While Penguin never sets foot on the exact location of the South pole, it gets closer than any other land animal, living all around the coastline of the landmass of the Antarctic.
True to the Plutonic Root center, Penguin is a very grounded bird, as it is flightless but very agile underwater. Unlike other birds they have bones that are solid and heavy, made for deep dives rather than flying. Their upright posture adds to the way that Penguin seems to embody the poles of Pluto which opens the path of light within the microcosmic body. Their unique and distinctive posture allows the penguin to tip their feet and rest their weight on their heels and tail to reduce contact with the icy ground, bringing our attention to another Plutonic center within the microcosmic body, the heels.
One will find several Plutonic principles within the nature of Penguin. To survive the cold climate penguins are known to form huddles by clustering together, moving in circles around the center of the huddle to store heat. The penguins on the outer edge of the huddle will slowly move into the center as they rotate. The Plutonic nature of strength in tribal unity, cooperation, loyalty and shared focus, seems to have found its expression in Penguin, captured in their spiraling dance, that perhaps could be likened to the heavenly motion around the Pole star.
Penguins do well to stay with the shared focus of the group, allowing them to survive some of the harshest natural environments on Earth. Since they live in large crowded colonies they rely on their calls to locate one another. The calling and the summoning is another Plutonic trait, associated with Soul recognition. Every penguin has a unique and complex sound that ensures that parents and offspring and mates will find each other. Pluto represents the longing of the Soul, a calling that pierces the membrane of consciousness at the Southern and Northern pole.
At the Southern pole Pluto holds the gate to the underworld, discriminating between light and dark, to only let light enter. At the Northern Pole this dividing force could be likened to the Bindu where poison and divine nectar are separated. Closely reminiscent of this principle, Penguin has a nasal gland which removes sodium chloride from the bloodstream allowing them to filter out the salt in the seawater. Pluto is the filter that assures that light and dark stays in their rightful place.
